people don't have the time to wait for so long to charge a hybrid car battery. A 100 percent electric car can reach
maximum popularity and practicability once this lithium ion car battery is available in the market.
The company said that their lithium ion car battery is a lot safer than the existing lithium
ion batteries in the market today. It could last approximately 5,000 charges, or ten years worth of use. It's
highly unlikely to overheat and burst into flames; a common problem of lithium ion batteries that power laptops,
cell phones, PDAs, etc. today. The company expected the sale of this battery in 2010.
Although top motor companies today already used lithium ion car battery to power some of their hybrid cars, but
the technology is relatively at its infancy when it comes to powering cars. The number one complain of the people,
which kills the popularity of electric cars, is that it takes too long to fully charge an electric car
battery. These batteries are also difficult to operate safely in the large quantities needed in vehicles --
overheating or damage can cause them to catch fire or explode. These batteries also have a short lifespan, losing
their ability to hold a charge well over time. New lithium-ion battery materials, however, may change all this. The
new materials could also extend the batteries' lifetime, reduce their cost, and improve their performance. In part,
these advances have been possible to nanotechnology. Lithium-ion batteries create a current by shuttling ions
between the electrodes as the battery charges and discharges. The added surface area of nanoscale particles on
electrode materials helps the ions escape, freeing more of them to travel and provide bursts of power or quick
recharging. That is why the world is waiting for the unveiling of breakthrough lithium ion car batteries.
